Eco Getaway on Big Sur Coast

Traveling is likely to be one of the most exciting and eye-opening experiences a person can have in their lifetime. The sheer volume of exposure to new places, people, and culture can be so overwhelming and exhilarating that we may find we've temporarily forgotten our environmental impact. I like to call this "travel-induced-eco-amnesia".

Thankfully, this unwanted habit can be remedied by simply remaining conscious of your ecological footprint while you travel; consider where you're going, how you're getting there, and of course where you are staying. An online marketplace for hosting and accomodating guests, we like AirBnB not only for cutting out overpriced hotels and scary-looking hostels from our trip planning, but for incorporating sustainability practices into their business as well.

As they explain, "Airbnb is actively encouraging our hosts and guests around the globe to promote a more efficient use of existing resources and an environmentally sustainable way to travel.Revealing top tips for hosts to encourage sustainability in their homes, Airbnb is encouraging its community to take action for the earth and reduce the environmental impact of travel through simple but effective measures like promoting recycling, encouraging local food sourcing, and pointing out public transportation options for travelers."

Yes!

With the help of the folks at AirBnB, we've rounded up a few of our favorite eco-destinations. Click on the the links below to view the listing.
