30 Urban Farming | The Everything RoofPosted By:Celine
Our new issue is due to arrive in just a few days! The theme centers around an introduction to urban farming—to people making it happen and great ideas/ways to get you started, all with a stylish, sustainable twist. As we were researching the new issue we came across so many amazing ideas, projects and people, way too much to include them all in the magazine, but I'm delighted to share a few with you here as we lead up to the release of Volume 2. One such project, in Toronto, is an brand new initiative called The Everything Roof created by a group called The About Face Collective. Their project is due to complete this summer—we'll make sure to catch up with them then as well, but in the meantime we asked them a few questions about their amazing project.

28 Vol. 2 | A Peek!Posted By:Celine
If you have been following Pure Green for a while you might remember Alison Westlake. She is the dynamic and charming florist behind Coriander Girl, a popular flower shop in Toronto's Parkdale neighbourhood. We love her natural style—her arrangements are freeflowing and unfussy yet stunningly gorgeous, and she uses locally and naturally grown flowers whenever possible. And now she is also a columnist for Pure Green Magazine! We couldn't be more pleased to introduce her new column in our upcoming issue called Flora & Fauna, in which Alison shares her inspiration and tips for creating flower arrangements. The above image is a sneak peek at the new column—we couldn't resist giving you a little taste.

21 Inspiration | Spring HerbsPosted By:Celine
Volume 2, our new issue themed The Urban Farm is on it's way!! There's lots still to do, but as promised earlier in the week there will be some fun stuff coming up in the weeks to come. You will meet our COVER, some new contributors, get a sneak peek and more. In the meantime, this pretty herb poster illustrated by Amy Borrell felt timely for our new issue, and besides, the weather where I live is so gorgeous (albeit rather unseasonal....) I'm already eyeing up my herb planters!! Which herbs are your favourite? In my household, Jonathan (PGM Food Editor) and I can't live without Rosemary, Thyme, Basil, Cilantro, Parsley and Mint.

19 Inspiration | UrnaturPosted By:Celine
The upcoming weeks will be filled with sneak peeks and further exploration of our theme, The Urban Farm (for the stylishly self-sufficient) and some pretty fun announcements too! We're all quite excited about it, a little sleepy from long hours of work these past few weeks, but most of all, WE CAN'T WAIT for you to see it! The reason for today's post is that the mossy green roofs of these cabins, found at Urnatur, an outdoor, woodsy eco retreat in Sweden, reminds me of the cover of our new issue, which you will get to see VERY soon! It is lush, verdant, mossy, and, of course, green!

9 Nature | Trout is AllPosted By:Celine
There's just something about flyfishing I love. It's not something I have ever done, nor do I live in an area particularly conducive to it, but it's a pasttime I admire. There's a simplicity there and yet incredible technicality too. It feels so pure, and since the best flyfishing is usually in the heartland of untouched wilderness, there's a connectedness too. This video is shot in the most beautiful light, and whether you like to fish or not, simply watching the enjoyment against such a stunning backdrop will make you smile.

7 Best of Pure Green | Vegetarian LasagnaPosted By:Jonathan
This Best of Pure Green post is dedicated to possibly one of Jonathan and my favourite dishes— vegetarian lasagna. When Jonathan creates a recipe he tend to 'go big or go home', especially when it comes to comfort food. You'll find this lasagna packed with every type of vegetable possible making it hearty and substantial. Jonathan likes to serve it with his mother's sweet pickles. This recipe makes a decent size batch so we suggest cutting the leftovers into single servings and freezing them for an easy meal.

6 Vintage | E.A. SeguyPosted By:Celine
A few weeks ago we posted about John James Audubon and as fans of both vintage and botanical prints we thought it would be neat to follow up with a piece on the lesser known E.A. Séguy, a Parisian painter and entomologist whose work is made all the more interesting as he is somewhat shrouded in mystery. Details on the painters life and work and cloudy at best, with deliberation even on his name and date of birth/death, which happens to be relatively recent at sometime in the 1980's. Regardless, he is best known for a series of work he produced in the 1920's 'Papillons' and 'Insectes' - from which we gathered the shown works for this post.
